Parallel Parking requirements - as per Restricted Test 

You will not be required to park between 2 vehicles, but rather behind a single car with at least 10m of space behind it.

Legal and Safety requirements: 

  • Indicates to the left before reaching the rear of the other parked vehicle

  • Completes a 5-point safety check - start at R-hand blindspot,work through all 3 mirrors to L-hand blindspot and looking through rear windscreen, immediately before reversing

  • Keep indicator activated until at least Position "C" in above illustration

  • Complete P/Park in no more than 4 moves ( a move is counted each time you change gears from "D" to "R" and not on when you turn the steering wheel)

  • Finish P/Park with wheels at 30cm from kerb (on the edge of where the stormwater drainage meets the bitumen) and within 2m of the vehicle in front of you

Hitting the kerb - what is meant by this?

  • If your car touches or gently kisses the kerb - NO ERROR

  • If you hit the kerb hard enough that it causes discomfort to vehicle occupants - CRITICAL ERROR

  • If any wheel mounts the kerb at any stage (including those angled kerbs that's easy to drive onto) - IMMEDIATE FAIL
